Today's students and faculty still check out books. They also check out drones. The furious pace of technological change has transformed how we communicate, how we teach, and how we learn.
In the University Libraries' studios, Hokies can invent, design, and prototype all in one place! Students, faculty, and community members can all use this space for risk-free exploration of their ideas and projects at no charge. Library student fellows help users navigate the ideation and innovation process while gaining important soft skills along the way.
Much of the studios' supplies are purchased with generous donations from supporters like you. For example in 2022, students from disciplines across campus created more than 2,500 3D-printed projects in the Prototyping Studio using filament purchased with private funds. Your support during Giving Day will continue to help fund studios' supplies, technology, and student fellow positions to help Hokies make the most of these maker and exploration spaces.
