Check out Giving Day 2023!
College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences

When William Addison Caldwell took his 26-mile trek through mountainous terrain in 1872 to become the first Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College student, he enrolled in such basics as arithmetic, agriculture, and geography. But he also took classes in another set of disciplines crucial to society’s advancement: the humanities.

This year, the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences is proud to be celebrating 150 years of the humanities at Virginia Tech. These disciplines — together with the arts and social sciences — teach our students nuanced thinking amid real-world complexity. They also provide insights that guide our faculty in seeking to ensure that technologies and public policies are in service to humanity.

As Hokies, we all share a profound commitment to building a better world together. Your gifts to the college make a powerful impact for our students and faculty. Please give what you can, with our profound thanks.
