Today's students and faculty still check out books. They also check out drones. The furious pace of technological change has transformed how we communicate, how we teach, and how we learn.
In the fall, a new Prototyping Studio opened on the fourth floor of Newman Library. Hokies can invent, design, and prototype all in one place! Students, faculty, and community members can all use this space for risk-free exploration of their ideas and projects at no charge. Library student fellows help users navigate the ideation and innovation process while gaining important soft skills along the way.
Generous donations from friends of the University Libraries supported the purchase of studio supplies and equipment — and even the renovation of this space. Your support during Giving Day will continue to help to fund the studio's supplies, technology, and student fellow positions.
"I'm excited to see what students produce by having access to the Prototyping Studio," said Patrick Tomlin, University Libraries assistant dean for learning environments. "I'm also excited about the energy it brings to Newman Library."
Your gift to the Library Excellence Annual Fund supports people, projects, and services that make a difference for our students and faculty. Thank you for giving to the University Libraries on Giving Day!
