What is Virginia Tech Giving Day?

Giving Day is a 24-hour celebration of the Hokie Spirit and the power of giving back, starting at noon, EST, on February 15. Giving Day is a special opportunity for Virginia Tech students, employees, alumni, family, and friends to come together virtually and show their support for their favorite Virginia Tech departments, programs, student organizations, and teams. You choose where you want your gift to have an impact, and special challenges mean that your gift can go further and do more good than at any other time of the year.

How can I participate?

Anyone can get involved with Virginia Tech Giving Day! Simply by donating, you will make an impact. If you wish to be more involved, sign up to be an Ambassador. Please also post about Virginia Tech Giving day on social media using #VTGivingDay.

When can I make my donation to Virginia Tech Giving Day?

Giving Day will start at noon on February 15 and end at noon February 16.

How can I donate?

Donating is easy. Visit givingday.vt.edu between noon on February 15 and noon of February 16 and find one or more areas to give. We strongly encourage you to make your gift online. This is the only way to assure that your gift will qualify for matches and challenges taking place throughout the event. To give by phone, you may call (800) 533-1144. You can make a gift to support the university's greatest priorities and opportunities, including scholarships, or you can make a gift in support of your school, college, or program of choice. You may make a gift to more than one area in the same transaction!

When you make your gift you could also earn bonus funds to support it. Then, share your experience! Post about it on social. Email it. Encourage your friends to match your gift. Encouraging others to participate guarantees success.

Is there a minimum donation?

You can make a gift of $5 or more to participate in Virginia Tech Giving Day. 

I'm having trouble making my gift and/or I haven't received my gift confirmation email. What should I do?

If you have issues with the payment process, and/or if you haven't received your confirmation email and tax receipt, please email givingday@vt.edu for assistance. 

What were the results from past Giving Days at Virginia Tech?

During Virginia Tech’s first Giving Day in 2018 over 4,300 donors stepped up by making a gift with a collective impact of $1.62 million in just 24--hours. During the second Giving Day in 2019, more than 6,600 donors made a gift totaling over than $2.8 million. The scheduled 2020 Giving Day was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and fundraising shifted to help the immediate needs of those in the Hokie community affected by the pandemic. In 2021, Giving Day resumed with over 12,000 Hokies coming together to raise over $6 million. In 2022, a record number of Hokies came together to raise over $8.4 million.

I don't see my preferred gift designation. What should I do?

If you do not see your preferred gift designation, give us a call 540-231-2801.

Is my contribution tax deductible?

Yes. Philanthropic contributions to the Virginia Tech Foundation are tax-deductible as prescribed by law.

Will I receive a receipt for my contribution?

Yes. The Virginia Tech Foundation will send you an emailed receipt shortly after you complete your gift.

When will my credit card be charged?

Immediately after finalizing your gift on the site.

What is your refund policy?

Charitable gifts to the Virginia Tech Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization, are not refundable.
