College of Agriculture and Life Sciences

The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences makes a difference in every corner of the commonwealth and around the globe.

We develop new research tools to tackle the complex issues in our food systems, local economies, the environment, and health. And we share this knowledge with the world through our robust Virginia Cooperative Extension network.

As the cornerstone of the land-grant mission of Virginia Tech, we prepare more than 3,500 students to be leaders in agriculture and life sciences across Virginia, the nation, and the world.

But we can’t do this alone. You are vital to our shared success as we work to create lasting positive change both today and tomorrow.

More than 30 percent of our students depend on need-based scholarships or grants to realize their dreams of a Virginia Tech education. Our goal is to provide that opportunity to even more students by increasing our scholarship awards to more than $750,000.

Your generosity on Giving Day makes a significant impact on the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

Your gift helps us:

  • Provide the opportunity to apply skills learned inside the classroom in the real world through experiential learning opportunities.
  • Give students scholarships so they can focus on academics and reduce the time commitment of working while learning.
  • Allow students to participate in organizations and events both in Blacksburg and across the country. Annual funds give students the opportunity to bolster their professional development outside of the classroom.

Integral to the student experience is fostering an environment that puts everyone in a position to succeed. With the help of our diversity and inclusion programming, we have the capacity to help students achieve their dreams.

Through CALS Global, we build meaningful engagement opportunities between international partners and our faculty and students. These partnerships are critical to creating thriving communities across the globe.

The impact of your gift, no matter the size, resonates throughout the college and helps fund our programs and vibrant student experiences.

Together, we can put the university’s Ut Prosim (That I May Serve) motto into action.

How you can help:

CALS Annual Fund

The CALS Annual Fund helps pay for financial aid awards, student research projects, summer internship stipends, student mentoring programs, and so much more.

Departments

Giving to individual departments allows you to direct your donation to your department of choice.

Virginia Cooperative Extension

You can also help extend our reach by supporting Virginia Cooperative Extension and allowing them to have profound impacts on the people of the commonwealth — and around the world.

Virginia Cooperative Extension is the outreach and education arm of Virginia’s land-grant universities, Virginia Tech and Virginia State University. Our people are our strength and we care about the communities we serve

We take concrete action that advances the well-being of all Virginia. Whether we’re building a more resilient food system, supporting local economies, or mentoring youth, we help manage our natural resources, bridge access to knowledge, and shape a brighter future for our communities.

Those gifts have allowed us to equip Virginians of all ages with the knowledge, skills, and sense of personal and social empowerment to thrive in the face of everyday challenges.

As the youth development arm of Extension, Virginia 4-H, and FFA work throughout the commonwealth to help all youth become the best versions of themselves.

These youth development organizations empower them to be upstanding citizens who are actively engaged in their communities and around the world. They help youth find their voice to be leaders in their communities and empower them to make positive change.
