Virginia Tech Spirit Squad
The Virginia Tech spirit squads are very blessed with overwhelming support from the athletics department. In the past five seasons, we have seen the addition of scholarship money for books, resources within nutrition and strength and conditioning and how those areas have directly impacted the overall success of the cheerleaders and dancers. Each year we strive to grow as a program, by increasing our engagement in the community, providing academic support and growing the squad member athletically and personally. Going forward it is our goal to increase the travel numbers for football and travel opportunities for basketball. These experiences are once in a lifetime opportunities that greatly shape the lives of these young student-athletes.
“As a Virginia Tech Cheerleader, I feel most at home when I’m cheering on and alongside my fellow Hokies in the college town of Blacksburg, Virginia. The Virginia Tech Spirit Squads train not only to support and encourage our fellow athletic teams, but to represent Virginia Tech at the UCA College Nationals competition in Orlando, Florida. The Cheerleader’s and HighTech’s practice throughout the entire year in order to compete against hundreds of colleges across the United States. Thanks to the continued generosity of Virginia Tech’s donors during The Drive for 25, the Cheerleaders and HighTechs were able to practice new and challenging skills on brand new mats during the 2019 season. These mats had a big impact on the quality of both the Cheerleaders and HighTech’s training, which allowed us to perform to the best of our abilities at UCA Nationals. The Drive for 25 not only supports all of Virginia Tech athletics but brings the intercollegiate athletic community together to strive towards our goals. None of this would be possible without the kindness of our donors.”
-Sonny Carey, Junior Cheerleader
YOUR support on Drive for 25 Day will go to the following areas of need:
- Locker room renovations
- Scholarship money for squad members
- Hokie Bird Nationals
“Blacksburg, Virginia is a place many people call home. Home, as I know it, is a place where members from Hokie Nation unite together in joyful spirit to support our team, the Virginia Tech Hokies. The Spirit Squads make up an integral part of Virginia Tech Athletics by being the faces and voices behind every cheer. We are thankful to have the most supportive fans in our stands, reflecting the same Hokie hearts integral to the core of the Spirit Squads. This year, generous donations will fund locker room renovations and will help send the best mascot, the Hokiebird, to represent Virginia Tech at a national competition. All gifts we graciously receive from the Drive for 25 allow our program to better serve Virginia Tech Athletics in line with our university’s motto, Ut Prosim. Hokie fans here at home in Blacksburg and those from afar, your undying support fuels my passion to be the loudest cheering Hightech, the most dedicated pre-medicine student, and the most selfless, kindest Hokie I can be. Thank you.”
-Senah Stephens, Junior HighTech
“With overwhelming support from the Athletics department, the Virginia Tech cheerleaders and HighTechs are among the top spirit programs in the country. Each year we work to grow the program by building the team culture, engaging in the Blacksburg community and promoting academics. These student-athletes represent Virginia Tech on the field, court, nationals floor and in the classroom; maintaining a team GPA above a 3.0 for over a dozen consecutive semesters. We are beyond grateful to all of alumni, parents and Hokie fans for their continued support. Your generosity directly impacts the student-athlete experience and futures of the Virginia Tech Spirit Squad members.”
