Over the course of the last decade, Virginia Tech wrestling has truly undergone a complete transformation in almost every area. When I came to Blacksburg in June 2006, we were not only at the bottom of the ACC, but we failed to score a single point at the NCAA Tournament in both 2007 and 2008. Through the hard work and commitment of many, we have steadily risen to become one of the nation’s elite wrestling programs, having won seven ACC team championships, placing fourth at the 2016 NCAA Championships and finishing among the nation’s top 11 teams for eight consecutive years. With the support of Hokie Nation, we have created the best fan following in the ACC and have made Virginia Tech wrestling a household name among NCAA Division I wrestling fans.

Despite all of our success, we still have a lot of ground to cover to achieve our ultimate goal of winning an NCAA team championship. Our coaching staff is one of the best in the nation; made up of men who have reached the pinnacle of the sport collegiately and internationally. This, combined with back-to-back top five recruiting classes and our first national champion this past season in Mekhi Lewis, we are truly set up to accomplish our goal of winning an NCAA title.
