Virginia Tech Giving Day 2023
Women's Basketball

The Virginia Tech women’s basketball team has been to the postseason each of the last three years and is poised for a return to the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2006 in season number three under head coach Kenny Brooks.

Since Brooks’ arrival in Blacksburg in 2016, the Hokies have enjoyed back-to-back seasons of 20-plus wins and late runs in the month of March, making a WNIT championship game appearance in 2018 after finishing in the quarterfinals of that competition a season earlier.

To begin his tenure, Brooks and the Hokies reeled off 15 straight wins to open the 2016-17 season, Tech’s strongest start to a season in 18 years. Behind that strong start, Tech climbed to as high as No. 15 in the AP Poll.  Brooks has ushered in a new era of up-tempo basketball at Virginia Tech, as his Hokies have reset the team scoring record in each of his first two seasons as well as reset the mark for most 3-pointers made.

During his time in Blacksburg, Brooks has recruited and developed second team All-ACC performer Taylor Emery, who set the single season scoring record in 2017-18 at 667 points. She also scored the most field goals in a single campaign with 236. Brooks’ tenure has also seen two players reach the 1,000-point plateau including forward Regan Magarity who became the program’s all-time leading rebounder during the WNIT run in 2018.

With players like Emery and Magarity and a talented group of newcomers, including the highly touted Dara Mabrey and Shaniya Jones, 2018-19 figures to be a very exciting and successful season for the program with Hokie Nation cheering them on in Cassell Coliseum creating an unbelievable atmosphere.

YOUR support on Drive for 25 Day will go toward:

International Trip to France & Italy – Summer 2019

With a large incoming class of 2019 it will be extremely beneficial to allow the team to start practicing in the summer leading into the trip and get valuable game experience against quality international competition, all while providing the student-athletes with a once-in-a-lifetime educational and cultural experience! Over 45+ Division I teams have made the journey to various countries overseas the past two summers and we are in a perfect position with a roster that will have a balance of returners plus newcomers and will give the team a chance to come together during the summer months. The ability to offer recurring international trips offers a significant recruiting advantage both with American student-athletes and those who are abroad. There will also be an opportunity to travel with the team on this trip, with more information forthcoming.

Updates and Renovation to WBB Cassell Gameday Locker Room

The program is in the designing phases of updating the locker room in Cassell Coliseum used on gamedays for the first time since 2012, in order to provide a state of the art area for players and staff to prepare for games. This project will be similar to the changes men’s basketball made to their gameday locker room which was completed in the fall of 2017. The goal is to begin the project in spring 2019 immediately following the conclusion of the season and to have it completed before the home opener of the 2019-20 season.

Recruiting

We will continue our efforts in international recruiting as we work to get the best basketball players and top student-athletes to come to Blacksburg and join Hokie Nation!

“The kindness and generosity of those who give to our program and to Virginia Tech Athletics help each and every student-athlete reach for excellence on a daily basis. We are all able to pursue this amazing opportunity to compete at the highest level and also receive a world class education at the same time. It allows us all to be a part of something extremely special, while being around the coaches, teammates and members of Hokie Nation who we love!”
